2025 HCL Patient Seminar
We are looking forward to our 2025 Patient Seminar, a two-day meeting on Zoom that will bring together patients and families to learn about a range of important topics with experts in HCL, nutrition, and emotional well being. Both days of the seminar will be held on Zoom. You can access the meetings using your desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. You can also dial in using a landline. (Note: if you use a landline phone, you will not access video or other visuals.)
Below, we have outlined each day of the seminar. You can register for one or both days!
Day One: Deepening Your Knowledge of HCL
Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 12:00-4:00 pm Eastern
Day One of the HCL Patient Seminar will focus on the symptoms of HCL, how doctors make an accurate diagnosis, effective treatments, and research and clinical trials that help us improve treatment and introduce new therapies.
The day will kick off with a foundational presentation by Dr. Kerry Rogers, a hematologist and researcher from The Ohio State University.
Following Dr. Rogers' presentation, you will learn about new and ongoing research and clinical trials from an outstanding panel of experts: Dr. Michael Grever and Dr. Kerry Rogers, both from The Ohio State University, Dr. Sameer Parikh from the Mayo Clinic, and Dr. Jae Park from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Robert Kreitman from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) will provide an overview of current clinical trials in HCL at the NCI.
Dr. Mirela Anghelina from The Ohio State University will discuss the HCL Patient Data Registry and its impact in HCL research.
Day One will wrap up with HCL Roundtables, where you can connect in small groups with other patients and families to ask questions and learn from peers.
Day Two: Living with Hairy Cell Leukemia
Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 12:00-4:00 pm Eastern
Day Two of the HCL Patient Seminar will focus on tips and skills to support good nutrition and emotional health and wellbeing.
Day Two will kick off with a presentation and discussion from Emily Blackmer, a clinical social worker at the Mayo Clinic. Ms. Blackmer will discuss evidence-based coping strategies and practices for supporting mental health during our journey with HCL.
We will then learn from Kelly Dunn, a Senior Clinical Dietitian Nutritionist at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. Ms. Dunn will discuss evidence-based approaches to diet and nutrition before, during and after HCL treatment.
Day Two will wrap up with HCL Roundtables, where we can connect in small groups with other patients and families to ask questions and learn from peers.
